Monitor and assess one's own understanding of course material, use of strategies and ability to transfer learning and strategies from one setting to another, (meta-cognition)
From day one I dedicated myself to accomplishing all my assignments on time no matter how long they were . Not only to leave a good impression, but also due to my belief that these assignments are some sort of practice that I needed in order to develop my skills. The essay assignments prove it; at the beginning of the course I was writing about 200 words only, which I discovered later is a very poor performance, so I started to follow the instructions of our tutor and always ask myself how,why and what are the consequences every time before writing an essay. In this way I was able to overcome the "poor performance" of writing but at the same time avoid filling gaps! In the reading passages ,however, I didnot change my old style. In fact, I found similarity between the teacher's instructions on how to solve the reading passages and my own steps; taking a quick glimpse at the questions before reading the passage to identify the key words. Also, our strategies both indicate that the vocabulary questions in the passage should be left at the end in order to understand them fully as one word may have more than one meaning. The target is to match the word with the meaning that suites its context in the passage.
