Demonstrate university-level speaking skills.
I think the main aim of the course isn't to teach us how to speak English, because obviously we do know how to speak, but to stress on the tiny things that we deal with as a blind spot. Pronunciation for instance; I always believe that a person's pronunciation of words reflects his background in language. In class, specially after each presentation, our teacher notifies us with any pronunciation mistakes that we have made, corrects it for him/her in front of the whole class and ask him/her to pronounce it again correctly. Honestly, I see these steps beneficial not only for the the one who did this mistake, but for the rest of the class as well; to ensure that no one falls in the same mistake! Also, talking for hours in pure English guarantees practice of the language. We are Egyptians and our first language is Arabic it would seem either sissyish or snobbish to communicate with people using a foreign language. So, I consider the class as our chance to express our opinion and thoughts freely using English as the language of interaction. To deal with this wrong judgement, every time we slip any Arabic words while talking our teacher would always tells us to speak English to stress on, what I believe is the main aim, the tiny things that we don't usually give much attention.
